Sergiu Stici, who is investigated for a number of serious offenses, said that he gave €150,00 bribe to the mayor of a village of Orhei district for escaping punishment. The mayor, who was recently arrested, told him that he can influence the laws so that he is given an acquittal sentence. In a video published on Facebook, the man said that the day the mayor was arrested, he and his relatives were beaten at a terrace in Orhei town by “athletes of Damir”. On the other hand, Dorin Damir, the president of the FEA Association, said these statements represent insinuations and speculations, IPN reports.
Sergiu Stici related that mayor Andrei Cociorvă was arrested in the morning of last Wednesday and he was beaten in the afternoon of the same day. He was phoned by a person who asked him where he was and a number of cars came later to the terrace where they rested. Those who came by those cars told him not to do something like that or he will be dead. The beating started then. He presumes that those who beat him were “athletes of Damir” with whom the mayor is acquainted.
Sergiu Stici said that he got aquatinted with Andrei Cociorvă in 2017 in penitentiary No. 13, where Cociorvă stayed for 7-8 months. When he was set free, he told him he will help him in exchange for €100,000. He gave the money in installments that totaled over €125,000. “A month ago, I was phoned by someone who told me in Russian that Andrei transmitted only €50,000 and the rest was lost at the casino,” stated Stici.
Dorin Damir reacted, saying that he knows Andrei Cociorvă, but does not know Serghei Stici. “I don’t understand why this person pointed the finger at me. He probably thought that he will this way attract more attention to this problem. I cannot believe that athletes attacked him in the middle of the day in the center of a town in the Republic of Moldova,” Dorin Damir said in a video posted on Facebook.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate Mariana Bețivu said this case is being examined, but no other details can be provided for now.
