BCS proposes no-confidence motion against Justice Ministry’s policies

As they announced several days ago, the MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) put forward a no-confidence motion against the policies pursued by the Ministry of Justice. According to them, during a year the ruling party has done its best to subjugate the idea of independent justice system, IPN reports.

“The Ministry of Justice created a system by which particular prosecutors or judges act only on the precious instructions of the “state party” or of its representative at the Ministry of Justice,” said Socialist MP Vasile Bolea.

According to the MP, the current minister got off on the wrong foot in the justice sector reform. The law on the prosecution service was amended so that the institution lost its independence. The Superior Council of Magistracy was also subdued and its work was blocked. The minister of justice rigged contests to fill posts of prosecutors. “The rule of law should be restored. The political interference wanted by the political clique represented by the minister is intolerable. It is unacceptable for the executive branch to control the judicial branch,” noted Vasile Bolea.

The BCS demanded to nullify the appointment of the chief prosecutors of different subdivisions and to take the Prosecutor’s Office out of political control by excluding the minister of justice from the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

Under the Parliament’s Regulations, a no-confidence motion is debated when the Standing Bureau decides, but not later than 14 workdays of the submission day.
