The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) will boycott the sitting of Parliament as part of the extraordinary session, MP Vlad Batrîncea announced at the start of the sitting. He accused the Constitutional Court of not validating a seat of MP in their group, and the parliamentary majority of planning to amend for the umpteenth time the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office and also the Electoral Code “in order to favor its candidate in the presidential election”, IPN reports.

“Last year, the group of Communists and Socialists registered in Parliament a declaration on the recognition of the state capture in the Republic of Moldova. And today we see once again that this decision is perfectly necessary. In this connection, the Constitutional Court recently stole a seat offered by the people to the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, without any legal argumentation, in a totally absurd way as our candidate has no incompatibility with the seat of MP. This once again proves that the opposition in Moldova is obstructed,” said Vlad Batrîncea. 

According to him, the group will no longer go to the Court to get another seat of MP, but will resort to other forms of struggle, including within international organizations, and also to protests. “People expect solutions from those who are in power, but we are witnessing an extraordinary session for the sake of the extraordinary session as we allegedly need to clarify things with regard to the presidential election, the referendum and the Prosecutor’s Office. In this situation, the BCS group will boycott this sitting as well, in protest,” stated the Socialist.

“Dear colleagues, I ask myself why did you come then? For taking your salary for today?,” Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said in reply.

An extraordinary session of Parliament was convened for January 17-18 at the request of the Speaker. The first Parliament sitting of the spring session will be held on February 1.
