BCS initiative to reduce fuel prices

The MPs of the Bloc of Communist and Socialists (BCS) proposed a bill to halve excise duties on oil products and to temporarily exempt these imported products from VAT so as to obtain a reduction in fuel prices, IPN reports.

MP Vlad Batrîncea in a press briefing said that this initiative will not lead to a decline in the amounts collected as taxes into the state budget as the given amounts are now by 2.5% higher than last year’s figures. The diminution of excise duties and exemption from VAT are important for the social and economic spheres, primarily for the agricultural sector that gets ready for spring field works. This way, the cost price of goods will decrease and these will become more competitive amid the current disruptions to supply chains in the region.

The sponsors of the bill said the decrease in fuel prices will enable to keep jobs and to ensure the stability of the social system in general. The BCS MPs called on the parliamentary majority to perceive this draft law as a social protection measure, not as a political step and to support it.
