Members of Parliament (MP) from the Bloc of Communists and Socialists are calling for a moratorium on price hikes for natural gas, electricity and heating between December 1 and March 31, IPN reports.
"The increase in tariffs will lead to higher prices and, obviously, higher inflation. The retired citizens, people with disabilities have not yet recovered after the 30% inflation in 2020 and the indexation to only 15%, which for sure was not enough to cover their expenses", said Socialist MP Alla Darovannaia.
According to her, individuals have over-indebted themselves in order to cope with inflated prices and to be able to buy medicines and pay for communal services. "65% is the extreme poverty rate, which is even deeper among people with disabilities. And under these conditions the Republic of Moldova is once again in the middle of a serious energy crisis, and the Government, instead of taking responsible and effective measures, has once again demonstrated incompetence and indifference towards the citizens", the MP said.
BCS MPs are calling for a return to the bills they drafted in support of citizens, but which were not accepted by the parliamentary majority for inclusion on the agenda. Among them, they list the bill to amend the Vulnerability Reduction Fund Act. "It is proposed to establish by default the category of extreme energy vulnerability for household consumers who have lost the maintainer during the cold period of the year or in the period of the last six months before it", Alla Darovannaia said.
Another Socialist MP, Vladimir Odnostostalco, believes that the state should do everything to ensure that people have decent pensions and salaries. Instead of doing that, the authorities boast about a huge number of applications for compensation - over 700 thousand. He says the government must urgently pass a bill to put a moratorium on disconnecting citizens from energy resources between December 1 and March 31.
