The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) will draft an amendment to the Broadcasting Code, which will provide for the punishment of the TV channels that make language and translation mistakes in their programs. Council member Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca has told Info-Prim Neo that they examined the monitoring report on 13 TV channels compiled by experts of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the only thing that the BCC can do now is to recommend the broadcasters to obey the linguistic norms. “The Council cannot penalize the TV channels even if the report shows that they made inadmissible mistakes, especially when subtitling the foreign films. The texts cannot be corrected. They must be rewritten,” said Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca. The members of the BCC stressed the monitoring was welcome as it revealed problems and the broadcasters have the possibility of remedying the situation. The Council considers that the cooperation with the Academy of Sciences should be continued so as to see how things develop. According to BCC member Gheorghe Gorincioi, such monitoring was performed for the first time in the last six years. In another development, the BCC members said the process of renouncing the broadcast license won by contest should be regulated by law. They referred to cases when some of the broadcasters apply for frequencies for a number of settlements, but abandon the others if they do not win the frequency for Chisinau.
