BCC responds to resignation demand of TV channel

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) said the accusations formulated by the private TV channel Jurnal TV against it in an open letter, by which the channel ask for the resignation of all the Council members, are groundless. The letter was sent in reaction to a penalty imposed by the BCC after identifying violations of the legislation, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the Council says the decision to penalize the channel was taken after the same violations were identified repeatedly, after Jurnal TV was warned and recommended not to admit deviations in the future.

According to the BCC, the three monitoring reports examined last year and the five complaints submitted by private individuals, legal entities and representatives of civil society concerning the violation of the social-political pluralism, human dignity and the right to reply by Jurnal TV allowed the Council to penalize the channel at least eight times.

The Council added that in 2013 this TV channel was penalized with fine only once as it violated the legal provisions on child protection by broadcasting the movie “The Tudors” that contained multiple sex and violence scenes at 19.50 and refusing to air it after 22.00, as stipulated by the legislation.

Therefore, the BCC asks Jurnal TV to respect the social-political balance, equidistance and objectivity and to stop manipulating and misinforming the people by saying that it is the victim of an unprecedented attack.
