The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) did not accept the application filed by a group of MPs, who asked that the broadcast licenses granted under the Broadcasting Law of 1995 be renewed automatically. The regulatory authority invoked that the given law was abrogated and thus all the broadcasters must be treated equally, in accordance with the Broadcasting Code, Info-Prim Neo reports. “If we accept the MPs' proposal, there will be created unequal conditions as a large part of the broadcasting institutions underwent the license renewal procedures,” the president of the BCC Gheorghe Gorincioi said at Wednesday's meeting. Corneliu Mihalache, a member of the Council, added that the the modification of the BCC's regulations would represent interference in the policies of the broadcasting authority, which is an autonomous institution. Thirty-two radio stations and 19 TV channels followed the procedure for renewing the license according to the Broadcasting Code. According to Gorincioi, 11 radio stations and 5 TV channels are yet to renew their licenses. The frequencies are put up for contest, but the broadcasters who use them are given priority.
