BCC Member Ruslan Plesca set free on bail
Ruslan Plesca, member of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), was set free on bail on July 6 after he was arrested and accused by the Centre for Combating Economic Crime and Corruption of extortion attempt.
The Buiucani District Court decided to set Plesca free on bail for MDL 150 thousand. Until the sum is paid, Plesca will continue to be remanded.
CCECC instituted legal proceedings against certain BCC members, for extorting EUR 60,000 from the director of a TV company in exchange for protection and a broadcasting license. The suspect in this case is Ruslan Plesca and the director of a Balti-based radio broadcasting company. Custody warrants have been issued on their names. Following their testimony, the CCECC officers initiated criminal investigations into the complicity of two other ACC members - Ludmila Vasilache and Valeriu Soltan.
Ludmila Vasilache and her ACC colleague Vlad Turcanu, who was also taken to the CCECC, do not exclude that the CCECC actions are the result of their activity within the ACC and the decisions which were passed recently with their support. Vasilache told a news conference that the massive campaign of intimidation of several ACC members can be explained by their attempts to change things. Vasilache, Turcanu and Valeriu Frumusachi were the authors of the warnings applied for the first time to “Teleradio-Moldova” Company and NIT TV station in the election campaign.
