BCC insists on removing advertising from rebroadcast programs

The Broadcasting Coordination Council is requesting all broadcasters that rebroadcast foreign programs remove advertising from the countries of origin. The request comes after a petition of a copyright protection NGO called Apollo, which found such violations at a local TV channel. In particular, Apollo found that Pro TV Chisinau aired foreign advertising while rebroadcasting Romanian talent contest shows. Pro TV Chisinau representative said it was impossible to remove commercial material because the shows in question were being aired live and the times of its appearance was unknown to the channel. The BCC advised the channel to talk to those in Bucharest and find a solution, like recording the shows for Chisinau before cutting out the advertising. However BCC member Mariana Onceanu-Hadirca begged to differ, arguing that the audience in Chisinau should not be deprived of the right to watch interesting shows live. BCC chair Marian Pocaznoi replied that the law cannot be violated and the channel was bound by the license to respect all the rules. Pro TV Chisinau received a public warning and was given a 30 days' term to find a solution. Under the existing legislation, re-broadcasters are required to remove foreign advertising and cover or blur any occurrences of product placement.
