BCC imposes moratorium during election period

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) has announced a moratorium on the contest of radio and TV frequencies for the period of the election campaign. The decision was taken on Wednesday, June 10, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Early parliamentary elections will take place in the near future. In order to create fair and equal conditions for all the broadcasters, including those whose licenses have expired, the BCC imposed a moratorium on the free frequencies that will last until the future MPs take their seats,” the Council’s president Gheorghe Gorincioi said. The BBC members consider that such a decision will calm things down and will enable the broadcasters to be more active during the election campaign. The Council also considered accepting the application to stop the procedure for granting/withdrawing the license of Pro TV Chisinau channel until the Supreme Court of Justice passes a final decision on the given case. The license was filed by Media Pro SRL. The BCC has issued a six-month retransmission authorization to SA Moldtelecom allowing it to test the retransmission of 11 TC channels through computers and TV with the help of special equipment on 95% of the country’s territory (152 settlements in 32 districts). It is a large-scale and costly project that will enable to provide television in practically all the settlements of the country. To get the final authorization, SA Moldtelecom will have to present the consents of the public authorities of the given settlements and to prove that it has technical and financial possibilities to retransmit at least 20 TV channels.
