BCC chairman ignorant of Pro TV's chances to have its license prolonged
The BCC chairman is ignorant of Pro TV's chances to have its broadcasting license prolonged. When asked by Info-Prim Neo, chairman of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) Gheorghe Gorincioi has said: “You know the chairman has but a vote. I consider the BCC members will make an adequate decision.”
The BCC chairman has added the process of adopting the decisions within the institution is democratic and transparent.
In case the BCC decides not to prolong the broadcasting license for ProTV Chisinau, it will mean “the state of law does not function and the elections will be rigged befoe even starting.” The statement has been made by Valeriu Saharneanu, the president of the Journalists Union at a news conference in Info-Prim Neo News Agency's quarters.
On December 23 the present license of ProTV Chisinau expires and the company has already applied to get it prolonged.
Three weeks ago, Christian-Democratic parliamentarian Stefan Secareanu asked the probing bodies to check Pro TV's activity, accusing the station “of undermining the institutions of the state of law.” He added Pro TV's activity “is part of the multiple scenarios of undermining the national interests of the Republic of Moldova, plotted by foes from abroad."
Later in October Moldovan media NGOs stated the attacks on Pro TV are attempts to rig the parliamentary elections of 2009.
