BCC calls on cable TV operators to include channels for children in packages

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) demanded that the cable TV operators obligatorily include TV channels for children in their packages. Otherwise, they will not be issued with broadcast licenses, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The animated cartoons must be dubbed into Romanian. The TV channels do not broadcast them because it is very expensive to dub them. The cable TV operators do not include them in their offers either and the children do not have what to watch. We should not accept unbalanced packages without TV channels for children and sports channels,” BCC member Ludmila Vasilache said in a meeting on Friday. BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi said the cable operators can cooperate with Romanian firms that have the translation into Romanian of the programs intended for children. “The Council’s Licensing Department provides consultancy to all those who want to prepare a package. We will tell them what channels they should include in it,” he stated. Last autumn, the BCC made a decision whereby the TV channels working in the country are obliged to subtitle the movies and documentaries and dub the animated cartoons into Romanian. A number of TV channel directors said then they will have to abandon the animated cartoons as it costs a lot of money to dub them and there is no studio in Chisinau to do it.
