BCC announces contest to fill post of Supervisory Board member

The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) has announced a contest to fill the post of member of the Supervisory Board of the National Public Broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova. The Board's charwoman Mariana Slapac filed a relevant application following the appointment of Boris Focsa as Minister of Culture, Info-Prim reports. “There are only four members and we cannot take decisions as the quorum is not present,” Slapac said at Wednesday's meeting of the BCC. She said that another member of the Supervisory Board, Igor Munteanu, has not attended the meetings since the start of 2007. He argued that he does not agree with the opinions of some of the Board's members and that he was involved in a legal case together with the president of Teleradio-Moldova Valentin Todercan. BCC member Corneliu Mihalache said that Boris Focsa has two months to decide which post to keep so that they should wait for his decision first. The BCC members suggested that Focsa should attend the Supervisory Board's meetings until the term expires, i.e. by October 25. But Slapac said that such situations of incompatibility of posts should be avoided given that the society is very politicized. Though some of the members proposed postponing making a decision as regards the filling of the vacancy, the BCC head Gheorghe Gorincioi put the issue to the vote and the decision was adopted. The Supervisory Board is composed of nine members appointed by the Parliament for a four-year term. The term in office of three of them expired. The other five members include: Mariana Slapac, Anatol Dubrovschi, Ludmila Barbus, Tudor Tataru, Boris Focsa and Igor Munteanu.
