Members of the youth organizations “Followers of Stefan” and “Voievod” on January 10 will stage a number of activities to celebrate the 542th anniversary of the victory of Stefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great) in the Battle of Vaslui.
In a news conference at IPN, head of the youth organization “Followers of Stefan” Dumitru Roibu said the Battle of Vaslui is a glorious page in the history of the Moldovan people.
“We, as a youth organization and as private individuals who care about our identity, traditional values and our rich history decided to hold a series of events on January 10 in order to underline this page in our history,” stated Dumitru Roibu.
The program starts at 1:30pm with a service to commemorate those who died on the battleground at the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in Chisinau. At 2pm, the participants in the event will go on a match to the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy, where they will lay flowers. A meeting will follow where representatives of youth organizations will give speeches. The event will involve Sergiu Reabko, head of the Association of Young Moldovans of Northern Bessarabia based in Cernauti (Chernivtsi) town.
Dumitru Roibu added that the celebration of the Battle of Vaslui became a tradition in Chisinau, the event being marked for six-seven years already. He called on the people to join in the activities that will be staged on January 10 so as to highlight the glorious past of Moldova.
