Batrîncea about Stoianoglo’s arrest: We see that government is nervous

The parliamentary opposition informed the representatives of all the diplomatic missions in the Republic of Moldova about the illegal arrest of the Prosecutor General, said Deputy Parliament Speaker Vlad Batrîncea. According to the Socialist, the PCRM-PSRM bloc will mount a number of protests so as to defend the rule of law, IPN reports.

Vlad Batrîncea said the accusations made against Stoianoglo lack substance and the case is political in character. Stoianoglo’s arrest was planned by the current government so as not to allow the Prosecutor General to publish discrediting information about particular officials.

“Stoianoglo spoke about the political responsibility of the authorities in the bank fraud case. He was the first to admit that there are political cases and political prisoners and apologized to society for such a practice. It is a case started by order. We see the government’s hysteria and nervousness. Maia Sandu aimed to get rid of Stoianoglo as swiftly as possible following his recent statements. Stoianoglo will definitely be released as this is the only appropriate scenario,” Vlad Batrîncea stated in the talk show “Key Issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

The MP noted that a series of protests will be staged the next few days to attract society’s and foreign partners’ attention to the abuses committed by the current government behind the fight against corruption.

“Protests will be mounted the next days and on Sunday. We will have a very active position. We already transmitted messages of concern to the development partners and representatives of diplomatic missions. The duty of the opposition is to protest and to take concrete, professional action. We hope that the Prosecutor General will be released on Friday,” stated Vlad Batrâncea.

He invited the people to a protest on Sunday, October 10, saying the event will be apolitical and the participants are urged not to use political party flags. He noted that by Stoianoglo’s arrest, the government aimed to distract public attention from the real problems of society, such as the rise in fuel prices and the lack of predictability as to the new contract with Gazprom.
