Bathing in city ponds poses major health threat
Bathing in the lakes and ponds located in the capital city is forbidden. Chisinau chief sanitary doctor Iurie Panzaru told today the City Hall meeting that the bodies of water in the municipality are infested with the type of cholera vibrio that is likely to cause acute infectious diarrhoea.
The vibrio was also found in Ghidighici Lake, in the leisure zone Rascani, in La Izvor and in Valea Trandafirilor ponds.
Although the vibrio wasn’t found in the Nistru River, Iurie Panzaru expressed his discontent with the situation at the Vadul lui Voda beach, where unauthorised sales of boiled crawfish and meat pies are in full swing.
Given that most of vendors near the beach don’t have access to sewerage, Panzaru warns that if left unsolved, the issue could grow into major problems of epidemic nature.
Panzaru described the general sanitary situation in the capital city as satisfactory against the background of 200 cases of acute diarrhoea registered weekly. The past week, there were recorded 228 of such cases.
