The number of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) agents who patrol bathing and recreation areas will be increased. Overall, over 1,000 policemen will supervise these territories, Info-Prim Neo reports. MIA’s Chief of Public Security Department, Anatolie Secu, stated in a press release on Wednesday that there has been an increase in the number of drowning cases lately. Law enforcers bring it to the citizens’ attention to be cautious when going swimming, in order to avoid diving into unknown areas, and those who cannot swim to avoid going deep into the water. Also, the use of inflatable mattresses has been prohibited, along with night-time bathing or if the person has consumed alcohol. An additional layer of precaution should be considered when looking after children. During the summer break, the police suggest to parents to stop their children from playing near roads. The parents should explain their children to avoid getting in elevators with strangers, or opening them the apartment door. Another recommendation, for the grown-ups as well as for the children, is to avoid using open fire. In case of a fire emergency people should call 901. According to the data from the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service of MIA, since the beginning of the summer there 49 registered drowning cases, 9 of which involved children.
