Traian Basescu was welcomed warmly by hundreds of Chisinau residents near the monument to Stephan the Great, when he came to lay flowers to the monument together with Moldovan and Romanian high-ranking officials on Wednesday afternoon, Info-Prim Neo reports. The supporters of Traian Basescu came with flags and placards and chanted “Union!”, “Basescu is with Us!”, “Basescu – the President of Romania and Moldova”, “We Want that You Become our President!”, “Remove the Border at the Prut!”. After the ceremony, Traian Basescu shook hands with several of his supporters. Immediately after arriving in Chisinau this morning, Traian Basescu thanked the Moldovan citizens for supporting him in the December presidential elections. “The votes cast by the Moldovans who hold Romanian nationality was very important for the outcome of the elections,” Basescu said.
