The organizations of Basarabian students from Bucharest, Brasov, Galati and Constanta expressed their support for the nominee of the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) from Romania, Eugen Tomac, for a seat in the Deputies Chamber of the Romanian Parliament. Vlad Durnea, the president of Basarabian Students Organization from Bucharest, told a news conference at Info-Prim Neo news agency that these elections were extremely important, taking into account that, “for the first time after 1940, Basarabia will be able to send a parliamentarian to represent it in Romania's parliament.” “From opinion polls we know that Eugen Tomac is on the first place. But, if he does not get 50%+1 of votes, we run the risk that Basarabia does not have an MP in Romania's Parliament, because by redistribution the place will go to a candidate from the colleges of Europe and Asia, America or Africa,” Vlad Durnea explained. The students have decided to support their generation colleague Eugen Tomac, who founded the League of Young Romanian from Everywhere in 2001 and unfolded numerous programs supporting the Basarabian students. “Eugen Tomac is the only candidate who came to us with a concrete program meant to support the young Basarabians studying in Romanians. He helped us in addressing the Education Ministry to raise the scholarships this fall till 65 euros. He is the one having made all the addresses to grant Romanian citizenship to all young Basarabians having studied in Romania since 1990,” Vlad Durnea said. “Eugen Tomac has always been close to us, to our projects we unfolded locally. He has always being close to our problems, he backed us, helped us,” said Alexandru Jurcaneanu, the president of the Basarabian Students League from Galati. “Eugen Tomac's opponents put up no offer, no program to support the Basarabian students and are not known among students,” Eduard Burlacu, the deputy president of the association from Brasov, said. “We have had two Basarabian MPs in Romania's Parliament {(nominated on lists of Romanian parties)}, who were never interested in the fate of over 10,000 Basarabian students and pupils in Romania. It's a unique chance we don't want to waste,” said the representative of the Basarabian students from Constanta, Anatol Tinica. According to Dinu Gandu, a senior member of the Romanian students League, the founder of the Basarabian Students League from Galati, Eugen Tomac is the only candidate with real chances to implement his electoral program, having the PD-L's support, and it is said to be the largest party in Romania. The PD-L's candidate, Eugen Tomac, promises to grant Romanian citizenship to all Basarabian graduates from Romanian educational entities, to raise the scholarships to 200 euros, work permits. Tomac was born in southern Basarabia (now Ukraine), is 27 and graduated the History Faculty of the Bucharest University, now working for his doctor degree at the same faculty. Since 2006 he has been Romanian president Traian Basescu's advisor for relations with Romanians from abroad. Romanian citizens from Moldova are expected, on November 30, at four polling stations in Chisinau.
