Barroso's visit exceeded expectations, analyst
While things are moving forward, it now depends on the Moldovan authority how fully they will engage in this European integration process, and also on the citizens, who should understand that transition may be a difficult process, stated political analyst Igor Botan, when asked by Info-Prim Neo to comment on European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso's visit to Chisinau.
The analyst remarked that Barroso's public speech today carried an encouragement message. “It now remains for the authorities to embrace this support and assume responsibility, both before the citizens and before those that support us with significant amounts of money in this process of European integration”.
Analyst Viorel Cibotaru told Info-Prim Neo that Barroso's visit to Chisinau has “exceeded all expectations”. Both his press conference and public speech have conveyed an essential message. “Politicians are working hard to change the living standards of people so that they can feel it. But this doesn't produce immediate benefits. The support offered by the European Union not just helps the authorities prevent a collapse of the Moldovan economy, but also assists the country in establishing itself on a new foundation. I think that the citizens are obliged to understand this”.
During his visit to Chisinau, Jose Manuel Barroso met with the country's leadership and delivered a public speech at the National Palace before an audience of over 2,000.
