President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso arrived in Chisinau in the evening of June 11. In the morning of June 12, the official is to sign four agreements by which Moldova will receive about €50 million in financial support for its European course, IPN reports.
Jose Manuel Barroso came to Moldova accompanied by European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, whose visit wasn’t announced and turned out to be a surprise. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca met the European officials at the airport together with the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola.
The officials didn’t make statements for the press. They went to have dinner in an informal atmosphere at a winery in Orhei.
After the planned accords are signed, Jose Manuel Barroso and Iurie Leanca will give a news conference. The European official will meet with President Nicolae Timofti and Head of Parliament Igor Corman. He will also have meetings with the leaders of parliamentary groups and with the Communist opposition. Jose Manuel Barroso will take part in the opening of the Moldova - EU International Investors’ Conference, organized by the European Commission and the Moldova Investment and Export Promotion Organization (MIEPO).
