Barriers to be set up at minimum 20 railroad crossings
A sum of 20 million lei will be allocated from the Road Fund for 2013 for placing barriers at minimum 20 railway crossings. The decision was taken in a meeting of the Road Fund Council, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar, who heads the Council, these measures can only warn the drivers and minimize risks, but cannot exclude tragic accidents that are the result of the drivers’ irresponsibility.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, in concert with other relevant institutions, will propose other measures, including amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses that will contain punishments for the drivers who will cross railroad intersections at the red color of the traffic lights.
The Road Fund for 2013 consists of 1 billion lei, i.e. by 54.9 million lei larger than this year. The money will be used to maintain, repair and reconstruct national and local public roads, to design roads, to develop the production of road service units, to purchase road maintenance equipment, etc.
State Road Administration chief manager Vitalie Panurco said that this year so far repair and maintenance works have been performed on 7,240 kilometers of road, including 3,210 kilometers of national road.
