The head of the cashier unit of a bank branch based in Chisinau was found guilty of appropriation and sentenced to nine years in jail and banned from holding administrative posts and keeping foreign goods for a period of three years. The Prosecutor General’s Office said that in May-September 2019, ignoring the legal provisions, the female employee appropriated money from the back’s cashier unit, IPN reports.
The missing money was detected during a check by the bank’s specialized commission. It was determined that instead of US$100,000, the sealed pack contained US$5,455. 955 $10 banknotes were replaced with $1 bills. The 44-year-old woman didn’t accept blame.
The woman’s guilt was yet proven and, besides serving time in jail, she was also obliged to pay €70,000 in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage to the bank. The woman’s property will remain seized until the debt is cleared.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
