Ban imposed by Tiraspol on vehicles registered on right side of Nistru lifted

The units of transport registered on the right side of the Nistru River have unrestricted access to the Transnistrian region if the owners have car insurance issued by Moldovan companies. A decree to this effect was signed by the Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk, IPN reports.

The decree takes effect when it is published. The insurance policies issued before May 9 will be used until their period of validity expires.

On April 1, Tiraspol imposed the condition to have mandatory car insurance issued in Transnistria on vehicles registered on the right side of the Nistru for being allowed to enter the Transnistrian region. One week later, the sides agreed to mutually recognize the insurance policies issued by companies from both sides of the Nistru. A moratorium on the implementation of this mechanism was imposed for the period until May 10.

In the last meeting of the key negotiators to the Transnistrian conflict settlement of Chisinau and Tiraspol, Victor Osipov and Nina Shtanski announced that the agreed document hasn’t been yet signed by the insurance companies operating on the right side. It was easier in the case of the left side, given that there is only one company authorized to issue such insurance.
