Balti Municipal Council rejected Vitalie Balan's candidacy for the post of deputy mayor at today's extraordinary session. He did not obtain the required number of votes to be appointed to the post. Ten councillors of the Our Party voted in his favor, PSRM and the "Victory" Bloc voted against, while PAS and unaffiliated councillors abstained, IPN reports.

The post of deputy mayor has been vacant since April 2024, after the resignation of Alexandr Usatii. Later, Igor Golberg was nominated for the post, but his candidacy was not supported by the majority of councilors.

A week before the extraordinary meeting, Balti Mayor Alexandr Petkov proposed Vitalie Balan for the post of deputy mayor, publishing the proposal on social media.

According to the legislation, if the draft decision on the election of the proposed candidate as deputy mayor is excluded from the agenda at 2 consecutive meetings by the council or fails to gather the required number of votes at two consecutive meetings, the mayor appoints the deputy mayor by a disposition, which is brought to the council's attention.
