Balti on May 22 observes the Town’s Day. The events staged by the mayor’s office of Balti involved invitees from abroad and representatives of embassies working in Moldova. According to deputy mayor Igor Seremet, compared with last year the funds spent on the organization of festivities were smaller, IPN reports.
Seremet avoided saying an exact figure, but noted that last year the financing was larger and the costs were mainly covered by Mayor Renato Usatyi.
The holiday started with the laying of flowers at the monument to ruler Stephan the Great and continued with a parade of representatives of education and medical institutions and municipal agencies. This was followed by a parade of epoch cars and bikers. A photo exhibition entitled “Balti. Twinned and Partner Towns” was mounted at the local Museum of Ethnography and History.
Hungary’s Ambassador to Moldova Mátyás Szilágyi said he was glad to see the laying of flowers at the bust of Stephan the Great as this shows that the people are proud of their traditions and identity.
The holiday will culminate with an open-air concert that will feature Ana Lesko, Carla's Dreams, Pasha Parfeni and others.
Balti is celebrating its 596th anniversary.
