Ballot will be about half a meter long

The ballots for the November 30 legislative elections could be half a meter long, secretary of the Central Election Commission Andrei Volentir said in the program “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Volentir, 16 candidates have been registered as election runners so far and four more are yet to be registered. In the 2009 elections, there were 38 contenders and the length of the ballot was one meter. If we have about 20 election runners this year, the ballot will be about half a meter long,” he stated.

Director of “Promo-LEX” Association Ion Manole noted that the large number of candidates in the parliamentary elections can be considered from two angles. “The fact that we have a high number of election runners is good for democracy. The people will be able to choose from a series of election platforms. On the other hand, I consider that in Moldova’s conditions the number of election candidates is too high,” he said.

Constitutional law expert Vitali Catana said that not the number of election runners, but rather the number of those who will vote counts in this autumn’s elections. “It is evident that we didn’t reach the living standards of the European states, but the voters must understand that we cannot return to the earlier decay. Therefore, the people must come and express their opinion by voting. It’s better to choose the smaller evil than to remain with the great evil,” he stated.
