Eugen Baleca on Thursday, June 30, appeared at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to accept his dismissal as director general of the publicly-owned bread manufacturing company Franzeluta, Info-Prim Neo reports. Baleca told reporters that he was feeling very tense and that he wanted to spare the company's workers and his family of the effects of the scandal around his dismissal. He also said he would sue those who made false and slandering statements about him and his work. Deputy Agriculture Minister Viorel Gutu stated that Eugen Baleca did the right thing. Gutu also revealed that today at 3:00pm the Franzeluta Board, which sought Baleca's dismissal, would hold a meeting to announce a vacancy contest. The Administration Board of Franzeluta dismissed Eugen Baleca on June 21, citing findings of an inspection by the Anticorruption Center which showed that Baleca was responsible for causing damages of 24 million lei to the company. Baleca was reinstated to the post the following day by court order, but the Board appealed. At a subsequent press conference Eugen Baleca alleged that political interests were behind his dismissal and that certain parties wanted to take control over the company. Later, Agriculture Minister Vasile Bumacov replied that that was a purely economic issue and that Baleca had to be dismissed because he was driving the company to bankruptcy.
