Bailiff and assessor to stand trial for corruption

A bailiff from Chisinau will appear before judges on charges of passive corruption, while an assessor will be tried for taking bribe. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent the cases against the two to court, IPN reports.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, last autumn the bailiff, for 30,000 lei in reward, tried to organize the auctioning of three confiscated vehicles so that these could be bought by particular persons at lower prices. The assessor is accused of taking 3,350 lei bribe for devaluing the three auctioned cars.

The bailiff faces five to ten years behind bars, a fine of 300,000 to 400,000 lei and ban on holding particular public posts or performing a particular activity for seven to ten years for passive corruption.

For taking bribe, the assessor could be fined 42,500 to 92,500 lei and banned from holding particular posts or performing a particular activity for a period of up to three years.
