Bad weather downed power and telephone lines in over 400 villages across Moldova
On January 3-4, 2007, abundant precipitations and stormy weather registered in Moldova have left without power and telephone lines a number of villages in central and southern raions.
According to preliminary data of the Department of Exceptional Situation, at present 383 villages are left without power, and 54 without telephone connection. The raion of Cahul is almost completely disconnected from electricity network, about 55 settlements. 10 villages in Basarabeasca raion are not provided with power, 39 villages in Leova raion, and 51 villages in Cantemir raion.
Among the raions which lack electricity are Cimislia (37 villages), Anenii Noi (32), Causeni (24), Ialoveni (20), Gagauzia (20), in Hincesti and Orhei (18 each), Nisporeni (11), Rezina (8), Straseni and Criuleni (6 each), Taraclia and Calarasi (5).
The strong storm caused disorder throughout Chisinau too. A number of suburban villages, among which Colonita, Fauresti, Goieni, Stauceni, Truseni, Ghidighici and Durlesti town have been left without power, while in Codru, Cricova, Singera towns, Bacioi, Ciorescu, Cruzesti and Tohatin villages, Grenoble and Kogalniceanu Streets in downtown Chisinau, the power is partially disconnected.
According to “Moldelectrica” SE data, 25 power plants were damaged: 3 high tension networks of 330 kW; 23 high tension networks of 110 kW. 53 specialised teams are involved in establishing the power and telephone lines. At the same time 74 technical equipment and 136 persons are involved in works of removing snow from the roads.
