Baby severely injured in traffic accident
A seven-month-old baby girl was admitted to hospital with serious injuries after the pram she was in was hit by a car on Wednesday.
According to Chisinau Traffic Security Inspector Ion Roscovanu, at 19.30, at the crossroad of Cuza Voda Blvd and Independentei Street, a Mazda-323 car, driven by a foreign citizen, student at the Medicine and Pharmaceutics University, aged 25, hit the pram carried by the girl’s father, throwing the baby girl out of the pram on the road. The child was admitted to Valentin Ignatenco Hospital with head concussion and head trauma.
A serious chain-reaction accident, involving 5 cars, which injured 4 persons, including 3 brothers, occurred at around 20.00 on Ismail Bridge. The driver of the Meredes-250, aged 25, also a foreign citizen, entered the opposite lane and struck a Fiat-Ducato which, as a consequence, hit a Volkswagen-Transporter minibus, an Iveco and a Toyota-Karina. Three brothers, 35, 40 and 41, suffered multiple traumas, head concussions and several fractures. The guilty driver suffered fracture of the arm bones. One of them, aged 40, also suffered a backbone concussion and partial paralysis.
At 14.30, at the crossroad of Alba Iulia and Onisifor Ghibu streets, another foreigner, while driving a Citroen, hit a sixth-grader of “Prometeu” Lyceum. The boy was hospitalised with multiple wounds and clavicle fracture.
Over the past 24 hours, 6 road accidents were registered in Chisinau resulting in 9 injured persons, and 20 minor accidents. Policemen fined 511 drivers, including 23 for drunk-driving.
