“B. P. Hasdeu” library launches program “Chisinau is reading”

The branches of the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu” in February-November will stage different activities aimed at encouraging reading. A program entitled “Chisinau is reading” was launched at the library’s head office on February 10. The program includes three books by national writers intended for grownups, teens and children, IPN reports.

The three books are: “Art of refuge” by Paul Goma, “Kinderland” by Liliana Corobca and “When the parents are not at home” by Miroslava Metleaeva. The first book is about children who became refugees after World War II. We hope the residents of Chisinau will ponder over those events. “Kinderland” has a very dramatic message, but we hope it will be a signal for the parents who are not at home. The third book is about children’s occupations when there was no Internet and no information technology and the children played mainly outside,” said the library’s director Mariana Harjevschi.

The program is aimed at creating a community of readers for promoting reading. “We want to promote reading as a natural state, especially long-term reading. We consider that an intelligent future can be built only when knowing your own values,” stated Mariana Harjevschi.

The books included in the program are selected by a commission consisting of writers, editors and librarians. These can be borrowed from all the 27 branches of the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu”.

This is the 13th program of the kind. According to the organizers, the program, carried out in February-November, involves between 8,000 and 10,000 people annually.
