Awareness-raising campaign “Corruption will not pass here!”

“Corruption will not pass here!” is the slogan of an awareness-raising campaign launched at 14 border crossing points between Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. The partnership between the three states is designed to consolidate the efforts made to fight corruption by promoting integrity and adopting responsible behavior in society and to also mark the International Anticorruption Day on December 9.

The campaign is launched simultaneously in international airports in the capitals of the thee partner states - Chisinau International Airport, Otopeni Airport (Bucharest) and Borispoli Airport (Kiev) - and will continue through this week at terrestrial border crossing points: four Moldova – Ukraine joint points, four Romania – Moldova joint points and three Romania – Ukraine joint points.

Officers of the National Anticorruption Center, together with those of the Border Police Department and young volunteers, will distribute informative materials accompanied by recommendations concerning the adoption of a pro-active attitude to report acts of corruption. Victoria Timus, of the Center’s press service, has told IPN that the young volunteers are members of the student National Anticorruption Center, which includes students of law faculties who took part in other anticorruption events as well.

The leaflets printed in Romanian, Ukrainian and English contain information about the three partner institutions, the main corruption offenses typical of each state and the national anticorruption phone lines that the people can use to report cases of corruption. A number of 20,000 leaflets will be distributed all over the country.

Attending the launch, National Anticorruption Center vice director Vadim Cojocaru said forces should be combined not only inside the country, but also outside it for corruption to be prevented and fought. “By such activities, a transfrontier cooperation framework is created and a public safety climate is developed, while the people realize the importance of reducing corruption at the border,” he stated.

Veaceslav Garstea, deputy head of the Border Police Department, said that when we speak about corruption, indifference is condemnable. That’s why the people must take attitude.

The event occurred as a result of a trilateral meeting held in October that involved representatives of the National Anticorruption Center, the General Anticorruption Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior of Romania and the State Border Police Service of Ukraine.
