The Cabinet approved the size of awards intended for athletes who will win medals at the 32nd Summer Olympic Games and at the 16th Paralympic Games that will be held in Tokyo this year, IPN reports.
This way, the professional athletes who will win gold will be offered 3 million lei. Those who will win silver will get 2.6 million lei, while the prize for the bronze medal is 2 million lei.
Also, the athletes who will rank fourth and fifth will be offered 600,000 lei in award, sixth – 400,000 lei, seventh – 300,000 lei, eights – 200,000 lei.
The coaches, assisting personnel, doctors and masseurs will also get awards.
Money for the purpose will be allocated from the Government’s Reserve Fund.
Twelve Moldovan athletes have so far qualified for the Tokyo Olympics and seven sportspersons are expected to qualify for the Paralympic Games.
The Olympic Games were to take place in 2020, but the International Olympic Committee decided to postpone them until this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
