As many as 8,500 participants in the Afghanistan war who have the status of war veteran will be awarded the commemorative cross “Participants in Afghanistan War (1979-1989)”. A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
The awards will be given to war veterans within the events that will be held to celebrate the Day of Remembrance for those Killed in the Afghanistan War. A sum of 2.6 million lei was earmarked in the 2019 state budget for making the crosses.
In the same meeting, the Cabinet approved the decision to place a commemorative plaque in memory of the soldiers killed in battle in Afghanistan in Cahul town. The plaque will be set up on Victoriei Blvd and the associated costs will be covered by the Union of Afghanistan War Veterans of Cahul.
On February 15, 2019, it will be 30 years of the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
