The young people became more susceptible to COVID-19. The average age of infected persons during the last 14 days decreased by 0.6 years, from 46.5. The persons aged between 20 and 40 are the most affected ones.
According to epidemiologist Alexei Ceban, of the Section of Epidemiological Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases, such a development shows the meetings between persons intensified. But there is also the effect of vacationing.
The number of infected children rose to over 2,073. The children of the 11-17 age bracket are the most vulnerable ones. The children younger than one represent 10% of those infected. As many as 282 pregnant women have contracted the virus.
The women are more susceptible than the men. The average incubation period remains five days. The import cases represent 1% of the total. Fifty of the import cases were reported during the last 14 days. Most of the infections were imported from Turkey, Germany, and Romania.
Alexei Ceban said the persons who got cured represent 70% of the 37,208 cases of infection. The number of casualties is at 1,008. 9,625 are active cases, while 469 patients with COVID-19 are in a serious state. A total of 4,421 healthcare workers got infected.
The incidence of COVID-19 cases during the last 14 days was high, of 184 cases per 100,000 people. The mortality was 2.8 deaths per 100,000 people. The number of infections last week decreased by 2.3% on a week before. The number of casualties rose by 14%, while of cured persons by 9%. A number of 12,980 tests were done last week and 3,222 of these were positive.
Marina Golovaci, secretary of state for public health and primary medical assistance at the Ministry of Health, noted that under the changes made to the provisional protocol on COVID-19, the persons discharged from the hospital or excluded from home treatment self-isolate not for 14 days, but for ten days now. The categories of persons who receive treatment at home were extended. The persons aged 65 and under and the children older than seven with mild forms of the infection, without co-morbidities, will be treated at home.
