Representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Ministry of Culture and the Chisinau City Hall came together at a conference to discuss new measures aimed at protecting the cultural patrimony and identify solutions to the serious related problems faced by Chisinau on February 2, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mariana Slapac, vice president of the Academy of Sciences, said the institution she represents is concerned about the situation of the immovable cultural patrimony of Chisinau. According to her, the monuments of architecture and archeology in Chisinau are under the protection of the local and central public authorities. A municipal register was compiled to supervise the cultural patrimony objects that have the status of protected monumenta. “But the deviations and violations of the legislation in this area lead to the degradation, defacing or disappearance of the monuments,” Slapac said.
Valery Kavruk, the new director of the Academy's Cultural Patrimony Institute, said the Institute will participate in working out strategies and mechanisms that would prevent the destruction of the cultural patrimony. He added that the Academy and the scientific community should not seek help from the international organizations to remedy the situation. “We are convinced that the Ministry of Culture, in the new political context, will make everything possible to save the cultural patrimony as the losses in this area are irremediable,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Culture Gheorghe Postica said the first steps that will be taken to save, keep and restore the cultural patrimony will include the formulation of new bills and normative documents that will provide for the implementation of the laws and the international conventions signed by Moldova, devising of a national strategy and of a state program for safeguarding the cultural patrimony.
“We will hold a trilateral meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Academy of Sciences and the Chisinau City Hall to discuss problems concerning the protection of the patrimony,” Postica said.
