Authorities will offer support if family of Ion Druță decides to bury him in Moldova

Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said that he got in touch with the relatives of writer Ion Druță, who died in Moscow. If the family decides to bury Ion Druță in Moldova, the authorities are ready to offer all the necessary support, IPN reports.

In an audio recording on the writer’s Youtube account, Ion Druță says that he wants to be buried in the Republic of Moldova. He presumes that the Russian authorities after his death will not allow his body to be taken out of the country. If so, he wants to be cremated, while his granddaughter Ana should take the ash and spread it on the field in front of the gray massive stone in Soroca.

The writer asks to be buried modestly and to have only a simple cross, possible a stone one, on his grave, and no monuments. He also wants an orchard with the trees he depicted in his works to be planted in Soroca. “The young readers should plant the trees. The appearance of the orchard will shape the look of the literature and readers in Moldova,” said Ion Druță.

Writer Ion Druță, who recently turned 95, died on September 28 in Moscow, where he had lived for a period.
