The salaries earned by the educators and technical personnel working in nursery schools could be increased, but it is not known when. At the recent meeting of the Government, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev asked the officials in charge to carry out a thorough analysis in the area and submit proposals. According to the General Division of Education, Science, Youth and Sports, the largest salary that the educators with higher education and seniority of more than 18 years can get as of September 1 is 840 lei or about US$ 70. The pay of the young specialists with higher education and a length of service of under three years will be 700 lei or less than US$60. The salaries of the educators with secondary vocational education will be even lower. The nursery nurses from September 1 can receive at the most 440 lei or US$37. The municipality of Chisinau alone experiences a shortage of over 200 educators at present.
