The Moldovan authorities either do not want or cannot become more firmly involved in dealing with the problem of the farmers intimidated by the separatist Transnistrian authorities. Expert of “Promo-LEX” Association Pavel Postica considers the authorities should focus more on the guaranteeing of human rights, IPN reports.

In the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, Pavel Postica put a number of rhetoric equations, namely: “Why can Russia start criminal cases and take attitude when the rights of Russian co-nationals from other countries are violated, while we are afraid to intervene in our own country?, Why the law enforcement bodies of Moldova aren’t more determined and do not take legal action against those who violate the ownership right of the Transnistrian farmers?”.

Journalist Ion Terguta considers the Moldovan authorities should have a more serious attitude to this problem. “What is happening now is an informational war on the part of the breakaway region. Our authorities must be more resolute and find solutions to the farmers’ problem,” he stated.

Constitutional law expert Vitalie Gamurari voiced hope that in its October 7 meeting, the Supreme Security Council will take measures to solve the problem of farmers who are in conflict with the Transnistrian authorities. “I hope they will take a concrete decision. Such discussions should be held more often, especially now that we are in an electoral period. The law enforcement bodies must cooperate between them so as to defend the ownership rights of these people,” he said.

The Transnistrian administrant since this spring has restricted the Dubasari farmers’ access to their farmland located beyond the Rybmitsa-Rezina road. Tiraspol demands that the framers should sign lease contracts to be able to cultivate the land, while the farmers say this thing would mean losing the ownership right over this land, which should be guaranteed by the constitutional authorities of the state.
