Authorities seek support from Energy Community in assessing energy regulator

Head of Parliament Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip made an appeal to the Energy Community, asking for assistance in ensuring an independent external assessment of the National Agency for Energy Regulation. This way, the legislature and executive commit themselves to develop the energy sector, to ensure the efficiency of the energy distribution infrastructure and to modernize the sector in accordance with the European standards, IPN reports.

“Yesterday, together with the Prime Minister, we signed a letter to the Energy Community and the development partners as regards the external independent assessment of the competence and independence of the National Agency for Energy Regulation and of the legislation concerning energy security. This is a commitment we made to the EU partners and this is also political will to ensure the Agency’s independence,” the Speaker said during the break in the Parliament’s April 21 sitting.

Andrian Candu also said that there were collected 35 signatures for registering the bill to amend the Constitution and remove parliamentary immunity. The bill will be included in the legislative procedure today.
