Due to an increasing number of suicides among children, the authorities are considering the opportunity of a hot line where children could talk to a psychologist when in need. The proposal was made by Deputy Premier Mihai Moldovanu during a meeting of the National Council for Children’s Rights Protection, reports Info-Prim Neo. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, eight cases of suicide among children have been registered since the beginning of the year. The factors that aggravate this phenomenon are the parents’ indifference or unjustified rough treatment they apply. Law enforcement bodies propose the increase of child-specialized inspectors throughout the country. Head of MIA’s Public Order Department Marin Maxian said that the situation is dire in child-involving crime as well. Since the beginning of this year, 916 minors broke the Law, whereas last year’s same period registered only 819 cases. The number of children harmed by adults is also on the rise. On another topic, it was mentioned that eight children had drowned in the first half of the year. Representatives of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service say that, besides the awareness-raising actions, campaigns and contests that inform about preventing drowning cases, some amendments to the Administrative Code should be made, to include fines for bathing in prohibited areas, along with children’s education on how to behave in bathing areas during PE classes. Authorities emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the institutions responsible for children’s safety, as well as the need for greater openness towards the media.
