Authorities say Nistru war was unfair

The Nistru war of 1992 must remain in the memory of the Moldovans for ever so that such tragic events never repeat. Related statements were made in a meeting held to commemorate those killed in the war for defending Moldova’s integrity and independence, Info-Prim Neo reports. President Nicolae Timofti said the Nistru war is the saddest page in Moldova’s history. “Nobody wanted that war, but we were involved in a political conflict,” he stated, adding he hopes there will be patriotic sprit for overcoming the current political crisis. Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said the Nistru armed conflict is a still bleeding wound. “Today we commemorate the heroes who defended the country. We render homage to the grieving families that lost the husbands and the sons. We pay tribute to you, dear veterans, for offering a future to our country and people,” he stated. According to the Speaker, March 2 is a lesson that must be learned so that no political decision leads to bloodshed and losses of lives. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the Nistru was unfair. “The Republic of Moldova has a future and this future must be in a unified state. Every citizen must work daily for the heroism and sacrifice made 21 years ago not to be in vain. We will always remember our heroes,” he stated. The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu said the heroism of those who fought for the country’s independence wasn’t appreciated by the previous administration and by the current one either. Today it is 21 years of the star of the Nistru armed conflict.
