Authorities report rise in Covid-19 imported cases

Of the total 300 imported cases of the novel coronavirus, 44 cases have been reported over the past two weeks. Most cases, 12, are imported by people who spent their vacations in Turkey. “The Turkey cases are 100% vacation-related,” Nicolae Furtuna, head of the Public Health Agency, told a press conference on Monday.

The incidence recorded in the last two weeks is 183 cases per 100,000 population. Some 5,7% of the infected develop severe forms of the disease.

The weekly case count increased by 9%, as the number of deaths dropped by 5.5%. The worst-hit territories, aside Chisinau, are the districts of
Anenii Noi, Edineț, Strășeni, Ialoveni, and the Transnistrian region.

Over 180,000 tests have been carried out so far, with about 139,000 people tested.

The average age of those affected is 47 years. Women are affected to a greater degree than men, with a share of 59%. 1675 children and 243 pregnant women were infected. The number of infected health workers is over 3,700.

The total case count exceeds 30,000, with 71% recovered, and 897 dead.

Svetlana Lupu, department head at the Ministry of Health, said 2,155 people are now hospitalized. A special ward for children will be opened at the Ceadâr-Lunga District Hospital.
