In the next few months, authorities will announce investment contests for the construction of edifices around Valea Morilor Lake, so that in the spring their construction could start. This order was given on Tuesday, November 21 by President Vladimir Voronin, who participated in a field meeting with Prime-minister Vasile Tarlev, and interim mayor Vasile Ursu, who are responsible for this project. Head of state asked local authorities to elaborate within one week a concrete plan of actions which must be undertaken in the zone. A project sketch which includes the construction of a series of edifices in the zone was presented. According to the project there will be constructed “a sports center, boating station, an aqua restaurant, aqua-park, entertainment facilities, a musical fountain, a Green Theatre and other constructions”. According to the orders “all these edifices will be placed in such a way that they do not hinder access of citizens to water”. At the same time, Voronin asked that the students of the Technical University are included in this project. Within two weeks, local authorities hope to finish the extraction of water. A certain volume of mud will be deposited on a nearby territory, and the rest will be transported outside the city. Previously, the mud on the bottom of the lake was estimated at about 2 mln cubic meters. Vasile Ursu declared that the works will be organized in such a manner that in summer there will be water again in the lake; however he mentioned that the construction could be finished within two years. About one third of the water from Valea Morilor Lake wasn’t evacuated so far, and its depth is of about one meter. The project on the reconstruction of “Valea Morilor” Lake was approved via a Governmental Decision and is included in the public projects related to the development of the municipality of Chisinau for the next year. The project on the reconstruction of “Valea Morilor” Lake was approved through a Governmental decision and is included in the first importance public projects related to the development of Chisinau for the next year. The idea of reconstructing “Valea Morilor” and cleaning the lake from mud belongs to municipal authorities and appeared as a result of an incident which occurred last summer, when 3 tons of fish died because of the consistent layer of mud and lack of oxygen. The City Hall of Chisinau together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources proposed at that time to evacuate the water and the mud from the lake, and to cover the bottom and the banks of the lake with granite flagstones. “Valea Morilor” park and the lake from this zone were built in 1952. The area of the whole zone covers 102 hectares, of which 36 hectare belongs to the lake. The evacuation of the water was considered the most ecologically efficient method. As well, it will strengthen the banks and will contribute to draining springs.
