Authorities made additional request to Israel to extradite Shor

After fugitive politician Ilan Shor was convicted by a final sentence, the Moldovan authorities sent an additional application to Israel, asking this state to extradite the former MP. Even if the law enforcement agencies in Israel asked for clarification, the Moldovan prosecutors haven’t yet provided responses, the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO) Veronica Dragalin stated in a press club meeting.

The official noted that an extradition request was first made in 2020. An additional application was yet needed after the fugitive politician was convicted by the Chisinau Appeals Court. After the person is convicted, the extradition procedure is managed by the Ministry of Justice with which the APO cooperates.

Veronica Dragalin said that a number of discussions were held with the Israeli counterparts and these asked for particular details. “They inquired about the relationship between the episode for which he was convicted and other aspects of the investigation featuring him. We explained that he was sentenced for an episode of November 2014, but he was also accused in other episodes,” stated the official.

As to the former leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, who fled Moldova after the power was replaced in 2019, the APO chief said there is no new information in this regard. The prosecutors asked to place information at Interpol, but were informed that this request by Moldova will not be granted. Respectively, the prosecutors don’t know where Plahotniuc is now.
