On June 14, the citizens of Moldova will vote the new local administration. IPN News Agency set the goal to determine how the local public authorities coped during the current term that is coming to an end. Experts, opinion leaders and representatives of civil society from different settlements will assess the activity of the local authorities of the country’s districts and municipalities. Floresti district has 40 mayor’s offices for its 74 settlements and a total population of over 89,000.    
Project manager at the Floresti-based public association “Speranta Copiilor” (“Hope of Children”) Violeta Ciuperca said the local authorities didn’t cope well during the last four years. Only one third of the projects promised in the previous election campaign were implemented and no other projects are now being carried out. An invoked problem is the lack of money and a possible solution is to reduce the number of mayor’s offices by switching over to counties and to cut the administrative personnel.

Initiatives intended for the young people, such as training centers, are first of all needed in Floresti district because the young people in villages do not have an occupation and do not have possibilities of putting their ideas into practice or of becoming involved into community life. Projects are also needed for pensioners who cannot cope owing to the very small pensions.

Eateries for socially deprived people should be opened under mayor’s offices or mobile teams should be set up to take warm lunches to persons confined to bed. Such projects were implemented only in the villages Raduleni and Cosernita.

Violeta Ciuperca said she expects that the new local authorities that will be elected on June 14 will focus on the promotion of projects intended for young people and socially unprivileged families, on the repair of roads and laying out of Floresti town.
