The authorities are accused of hiding a traffic accident that involved prosecutor Iurie Garaba, who heads the General Investigations Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Supreme Council of Prosecutors. In a news conference at IPN, politician Sergiu Mocanu, who is the leader of the Movement “Antimafie”, said the prosecutor’s car collided with another car, whose driver was arrested and is now subject to pressure.
Sergiu Mocanu told the journalists that the accident happened in the morning of July 30. The vehicles were damaged insignificantly. Several eyewitnesses saw how the prosecutor attacked the other diver and threatened him with a gun. Several police cars went to the scene later, not only of the traffic police. The person involved in the accident was arrested and is now in the custody of the police of Buiucani district. He is pressurized into admitting that he caused bodily injuries to Iurie Garaba.
Sergiu Mocanu said that a person who caused a minor accident is arrested nowhere in the world. “This person is in danger and faces a long jail term if we do not intervene. Their official version is that he caused injuries to the prosecutor. We have two witnesses whom we will put under protection. We will come into possession of a video recording made at the place of the accident. In 72 hours the driver is to appear before a judge,” stated the politician.
He also said that anyone can be involved in an accident. The problem resides not in the accident, but in the way the authorities acted and how they treated this ordinary man, who has children, only because he was unlucky to meet a prosecutor in the street,” said the leader of the “Antimafie” Movement.
According to him, the prosecutor only tries to show that he has power. “He is a high-ranking official, but the state institutions didn’t reveal this accident. They usually boast of every minor case. The journalists are called to even less important accidents. Why do they keep silent now?” asked Sergiu Mocanu.
The Movement “Antimafie” committed itself to monitor this case so as not to allow even more serious abuses.
