Authorities do not intend to extend state of emergency after May 15

The state of emergency ends on May 15 and the authorities do not intend to extend it. After this day, all the state institutions will return to the normal work program, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated after the meeting of the senior state officials, IPN reports.

The official said an eventual rise in the number of infections with the novel coronavirus will make the authorities to impose harsh restrictions.

Premier Chicu noted the Government is preparing for a possible second wave of COVID-19. A part of the medical equipment that is purchased or is received by Moldova from donors is distributed to hospitals, while the other part is stored.

The public sector employees resume work under a special regime on May 4. The managers of institutions have the right to summon all the persons they need at the workplace. A part of the employees will continue to work from a distance.

The post offices this month will also distribute the pensions of elderly people home.

The situation in agriculture will be assessed this week, including after the recent precipitation, and the Government will provide support, if need be. “The country has wheat and sufficient reserves for the food security to be ensured,” stated Ion Chicu.

The state of emergency in Moldova was declared by Parliament on March 17.
